Taking a cue from her kitty muses, Velvet and Sweet Pea, Laurie believes in living in the moment, making the most of opportunities to relax and take care of yourself, and luxuriating in only the best of everything. By incorporating nature into your everyday world, and remembering to treat and delight as many of your senses as possible, you set your life to a subtly different pace, creating a space for yourself to be relaxed and alive.
Here are some of Laurie’s tips and ideas for bringing the Velvet and Sweet Pea way of living into your life. And of course, as always – everything must be fun, whimsical, beautiful, yummy, and the best in the world!

Laurie’s husband, Gary, knows how much his wife loves roses. In the philosophy of flower essences, roses open your heart, filling you with love and compassion, but their thorns protect you always, allowing you to be open without fear of being hurt. And they also smell incredible! So whenever Gary prunes the roses in their garden he saves all the petals for Laurie, soaking them in a big bowl of water in the sun.
This process, called “solarization,” allows the sun to transfer the wonderful properties of the rose from the blossoms into the water. This delicious rose petal water is wonderful to splash on your face as a cooling refresher, put in a spray bottle and spray throughout your house for a wonderful, natural air freshener, or pour into your bath for a luxurious treat. Put the rose petals themselves right into the bath as well – a beautiful treatment you’d pay big money for at an expensive spa. Keep your rose petal water in the refrigerator after solarization and use within five days.
